Please take a moment to vote in the attached poll regarding keepers for next season. You may also add your comments to this thread regarding keepers. There is another active thread started already about general suggestions to the league. Feel free to join in the conversation here: fantasysportsboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=suggestions&action=display&thread=273This is a keeper league and the managers had voted to increase the number of players allowed to bring back to a maximum of five starting in 2012. The rule up for vote is whether you should be required to keep five or can you enter the draft with less.

I don't believe in forcing a team to keep players. Especially if they have little to no Keeper worthy players. However, i will vote for keeping a Minimum of 3 in order to appease those who believe that Keepers must be kept. I'm hoping that those who believe that 5 players must be kept meet me in the middle and vote for a minimum of 3 option.

If it's a keeper league, every team should have some skin in the game. There should be a minimum every team must meet. Personally, I think 3 is too many to require in a 20-team league. Should be a minimum of 1 or 2 at most. Those are not options here, though, so voting for the 3 minimum.

I went with the no Mininum. 3 is still too many I think for a lot of the teams that struggled. Though, I'm thinking that maybe 2 could be a better number for the requirement.

I was hoping we would also address the dropping of keepers once they are declared.

I agree with the idea that since this is a keeper league, everyone should at least be keeping a couple guys, but if you think about it, it's usually the teams who struggled the year before that don't have enough quality guys to be able to keep, so it only puts them at a disadvantage. I'm all for building powerhouse franchises, but i'd like to think that any team should be able to come into the year with some kind of chance to win.
I do however think that the dropping keepers thing that kept going on last year was nuts. That kind of thing would make me want to set a mandatory minimum so no teams don't just all announce 5 keepers and then slowly drop them one by one, just doesn't seem right to me. If that's addressed we should be fine with a low or no minimum.

I do not think any owner should be required to keep any number of players. The one problem I see with declaring a date for keepers is a season ending injury, unless that keeper can be put on the DL prior to the draft. I do agree with others though about dropping keepers at the last minute.

C'mon guys, the problems have been addressed. Let's come up w/solutions.
How do we address the dropping keeper situation? I say keepers need not be declared until 3 days before the draft. We push the Draft date as close to the beginning of the season as possible. That should give players a guage as to whether a player will be injured coming into the season.
So, the Draft takes place within 7 days of the start of the season. Keepers be declared no longer than 3 days before the draft.

I was hoping we would also address the dropping of keepers once they are declared. Yes, I agree. We'll put in deadlines for this. And they won't be able to drop players after they've declared their number.

I think two days before the draft should be the deadline. It still gives teams plenty of chances to continue to trade keepers/draft picks. And the two days should give everyone enough time strategizing for the draft.

Once you declare your keeps (one week prior to the draft), you no longer can drop or trade them unless they are out for the season. SIMPLE ENOUGH.....YES?

I agree with most of the things said so far.... Some athletes get hurt falling out of bed. I agree no dropping keepers after the deadline is set. I don't like the idea of not keeping any players at all. Because that is not a keeper league. Whatever the league decides is fine with me. We should have a Wainwright rule if a player is done for the season after the player is declared a keeper that team should get that pick back.
