TRADE 71Yard Man trades picks 114 and 374 to Westside Bombers for picks 177 and 217 Wow! I didn't even know Westside Bombers made trades. I thought he was part of the "JUST SAY NO TO TRADES" Fraternity.

Why are we letting teams drop keepers they selected and rewarding the With a high pick?

That is correct. According to the FAQ on the first page of this thread:
"Q: Do I have to keep 4 players? A: No, if you decide not to keep four players, you will use your turn in the draft to pick a player from the available pool instead."

Why are we letting teams drop keepers they selected and rewarding the With a high pick? I think this should be looked at for next year, where you have to actually hang on to 3 of the 5 keeps. If everyone were to drop their keeps, it wouldn't be a keeper league. I thought that was the point of it.

the purpose of keepers is that every team selects 4 and has the ability to trade them, but after keepers are selected now someone can cherry pick players that have been dropped by other teams. if this is not going to be a keeper league fine, but lets have some sort of rules to follow. Or let's have everyone drop there keepers and start all over again..

As slama posted earlier, we do have a rule. This is all part of the league framework. I believe it would take a vote to change it for next year

i know that some people like the rule and some people dont, but the way the rule will be applied will certainly affect how people draft and trade during the season. if this rule will be applied for how people treat next year's keepers, wouldnt the vote have to take place before the draft to go into effect? If not, i would think this would be unfair to those who use that as a factor.
I would certainly not have traded away pujols, a gonz, zim and others if that rule was changed.

Or let's have everyone drop there keepers and start all over again.. Personally, I don't care for the rule change that allows teams to declare keepers and subsequently drop them once they see which players are available in the FA pool. Keep in mind, though, they are dropping them in favor of players that we not kept by any of the other teams in the league. At this point, Milkman is likely to have a very solid team, no question. But it will also be comprised entirely of players that were not considered keepers by the other 19 teams in the league. His challenge going forward will be finding or otherwise acquiring keeper-worthy players for next season and beyond. Otherwise, he will be back to the drawing board again heading into the off-season and next year's draft. Now, that all being said...a keeper league should be just that. A minimum number of keepers should be required of each team. In a 20-team league, I think 2 or 3 is a good minimum number. And once you declare your keepers, they should be locked in - barring a trade - heading into the draft. Will be very interesting seeing how this all unfolds... I know nothing can be done for this year, let's begin to discuss how to change this for next year. Yard Man is right, in a 20 team league and if you are keeping 4-5 players, then I would say 2(4) or 3(5) should be required once declared. Unless traded away. I make a motion to put it out there for next year.

Personally, I don't care for the rule change that allows teams to declare keepers and subsequently drop them once they see which players are available in the FA pool. this is not a rule change that allows people to drop keepers. this was always the setup for this league. Rules can be changed, but i dont think rules should be allowed to be changed in the same season. changing this rule should not stop people from dropping players next year, but rather the year after. for those that are against 'cherry picking' have people submit all of the keepers they want to the commish, and no one will know until the deadline. that way you declare how many of your players you will be keeping and cant change it.

I don't think anyone is suggesting making the change this season, but for the future. Yes, Rick is exactly right.
I have personally seen many leagues allow to keep "up to x players" and yahoo allows for this. However, as I stated, it isn't a popular one in this league, so we'll look to revise it for next season. -Commish

this is why this is the best damn league going: joe let's all have a say and the league get's to decide. Joe is nothing like the Wisconsin Governor, he let's the people decide..
