How does divisions work in fantasy baseball? Like MLB? Division winners make playoffs not neccesarily the best records? Do we play our division more? Just want to know how it works before I vote.

Soooo...a Pirates fan...a Jays fan...a ChiSox fan...and I know we have at least a couple of Tribe fans in here (including myself). Man, we have ALL the scrub teams covered, don't we?! Not yet.... I guess your post was a perfect segway for me to introduce myself... I'm Victor Torres or SlamalamaDingDing. Speaking of scrub fans, Big Marlins Fan here. I'm located in Sunny South Florida where we always field a great team of no name players in an empty stadium. I've been playing Fantasy Baseball since 2004 and wanted to step it up a bit regarding the competition. I currently run a small league of 10 players on Yahoo but want to expand. Great to meet you all. I would place my Avatar up but am not too good with my Computer. Was trying to upload my Avatar from my Computer to this site but was unable to. It's a Chicken. Yes, I associate myself with the evil Chicken. You'll see in on Yahoo if when you see my team. I'm so psyched to get this started. Let's Roll Baby!

Joe, you have the Points league set to draft at the same time, no? I'll be moving the points league time once I start putting it out there for the other teams to join. The points league time is just a placeholder till i get feedback from everyone what time/date works best.

Can anyone help me here? I see with seeds records don't really matter if top 8 get in. But what about playing each other in division and out of division? We play in division more or is it the same whether in or out of division? My concern is this. If one team turns out to be very good it is a disadvantage to teams in that division and advantage to other league who doesn't play that team equal amount of times. Another thing how does this affect trading? Will we be able to trade in division? The way I am seeing this we are not only playing for best record but I see ( I think) we are also playing against people in our division for seed spots for playoff. If so this will impact how trades are done in division. So in another words we are playing 2 games in one right? Please expound on this for me Commissioner so I can cast my vote. Thank you

drat day/time: personally - the day doesn't matetr a much as the time of day. on the east coast - the kids go to bed @ 9-9:30 and i'm good after then. i know not all have this schedule but am just pushing for later time of day. regardless - i'll be there. As far as divisions: why not just do what your other past leagues have been doing. if they are/were divisional; then we should be, if they are non-divisional - we keep it as one... in other words - what ever's been working; keep it working. In closing - Damon! Go away!!!! I'm already sick of this guy and he's not even a tiger yet. he will be but the damned chisox and braves are suckering the price up. why can everyday joe baseball see this but not ht e GM's and owners? i almost want to monica seles the guy when he gets here.

Come on you don't want the man with the girlie arm if it MUST happen - no more than one year deal. i understand the tig's have a lot of money coming off payroll going into 2011 and can make better strides later as opposed to this season. I tried to track this trade rumor stuff all week on mlb trade rumors and roto world and came accross the official johnny damon website - after seeing that - Ha! (the following in a combination ny/ne accent) "forget about it"... go back to new york ya douchebag! Oh yeah, for those looking for a laugh: check this dude's site out... johnnydamon.com/ - is that one of those american idols (they're freakin everywhere) or david copperfield suspended in mid-air... i'm confused

I'm changing my vote. Having had a few days to think it through, I believe four Divisions would work best. At least for motivational purposes.
I can see managers being more involved within a Divison where there are only five teams as opposed to ten.
Imagine the 2 Division scenario: Those teams in eigth, ninth, and tenth place will be much less motivated than in the following scenario:
Those teams in 4 Division scenario: those teams in 3rd, 4th, and 5th place will be much more motivated and hopeful to make it into the playoffs. That is my two cents.

To me, it seems the luck (or unluck) of the division draw plays too much of a factor in determining the outcome of the season in a 4 division league. If I have the 10th best overall record, but in a division with the top 2 or 3 teams record-wise, I am likely done. Now if this was a no division league, I only need to catch the 8th place team to qualify for playoffs. The only way I see a weaker teams benefiting from a smaller division is if by luck of the draw, 1 or 2 divisions comprise of the bottom 10 teams overall. Of course, this introduces another undesirable scenario where a couple sub .500 division winners could bump a very respectable 7th or 8th place finish from a playoff berth.
As far as divisions in general…unless the divisions play unbalanced schedules and/or the top 4 teams in each division qualify for playoffs (or top 2 if 4 division), I don’t see where divisions really buy us anything.
